I would appreciate it if a representative from each school could respond to this post with a brief description of the organizational structure of your student government.

How many members do you have?
Do you have a bicameral or unicameral system?
How are the members elected?
What rights and responsibilities do the members have?
Do all members have the right to vote?
Can some members only vote on certain items?

The Cornell GPSA is currently reevaluating its organizational structure; your comments will help us consider what system affords us the best functionality.

The Cornell GPSA hopes that this site will allow the graduate and professional student governments of our institutions to engage in meaningful discussions between Ivy Summits. This site can help us share ideas, concerns, challenges, or revelations that come to us as we work through issues facing our individual schools.

At the 2010 Ivy Summit, we saw that several issues are central to many or all of our governance systems. We hope that by discussing those issues in a public forum, where everyone can monitor and contribute to the conversation, we can help each other move forward to better serve the graduate and professional students at our institutions.

If you have any suggestions for how this blog site can be improved, please post your ideas here or contact me directly (dte6@cornell.edu). I am sure that valuable discussions will start up on this blog shortly!
